Raptors fall to the Eagles

Raptors fall to the Eagles
On Sunday, December 22nd, the Montgomery College Raptors faced the Wake Tech Eagles in the second game of the annual Montgomery College Holiday Tournament. Although the Raptors jumped out to an early lead, a third quarter surge by the Eagles tipped the game in their favor, and the Raptors lost 58-52.

The Raptors started the game off strong with suffocating defense. The Eagles went 2-19 from the field in the first quarter, including an ice cold 0-7 from behind the arc. The Raptors didn't shoot much better, but between forcing 8 turnovers and grabbing 7 offensive rebounds ended the quarter with a 13-5 lead. In the second quarter, the Eagles put up a much better fight. The Raptors went cold as well, and Ashyra Carrol's six points off the bench cut the lead to 23-19 to go into halftime.

After halftime, the Eagles came out with a vengeance. Their intensity skyrocketed, and between Aleigha Allen's 10 rebounds and Alissa Yates scoring 9 points in the quarter, outscored the Raptors 17-9 in the third. The Eagles then continued the run, outscored the Raptors 11-4 to start the quarter. Their defense impressed, allowing only one made field goal in the first 5 minutes of the fourth. Now being up 11, the Eagles slowed the game down and generated quality looks. A late comeback attempt cut the lead to 6, but the Raptors could never get any closer, losing 58-52. This loss drops the Raptors to 9-4 on the season, closing out the first semester.

Stats to note:
  • Tiana Carney led the Raptors with 18 points and 8 rebounds, and was the only Raptor to score in double figures.
  • Jai'lun Brimmer finished one rebound short of a triple double. She had 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 10 assists.
