Raptors dominate the Colts

On Saturday, December 21st, the Montgomery College Raptors faced the Middlesex College Colts in the first game of the annual Montgomery College Holiday Tournament. After hanging around in the first half, the Raptors put their foot on the gas and won 80-55.
The Raptors dominated the boards to start the game. They grabbed 8 offensive rebounds, and converted them into good second chance looks. Tiana Carney scored 8 of her 24 points in the first quarter, and the Raptors led 18-12 at the end of the period. The suffocating defense by the Raptors was the story of the second quarter. They forced 9 turnovers in the quarter, with Litzy Lujan-Gonzales notching three steals. These turnovers fueled the Raptors, and they went into the half up 37-26.
The third quarter is where the Raptors put the game away, as they outscored the Colts 26-11. Tiana Carney scored another 8 points, and Daniella McGuthrie added 8 of her own. The suffocating defense of the Raptors held the Colts to 23.5% (4-17) shooting, and forced another 9 turnovers. The Raptors entered the fourth quarter up 63-37, and held the lead until the final buzzer. Litzy Lujan-Gonzales scored 9 points in the quarter, and knocked down a deep three pointer. This win moves the Raptors to 9-3 on the season.
