Raptors Fall to Harford 1-0

Raptors Fall to Harford 1-0

Rockville, MD - The Montgomery College Raptors hosted first divsion rival Harford Owls on Thursday, October 6, 2022 with the top seed for the 2022 Region XX playoffs on the line. The Raptors were were unable to take advantage of multiple opportunities, allowing Harford to grab a second half goal and the 1-0 win.

From the start, Harford looked to stay compact and find opportunities to counter. The Raptors took advantage of the space and used possession of the ball to create a number of scoring opportunities. In the first half alone, the Raptors had eight corner kicks as well as three free kicks in the attacking third. MC failed to take advantage of their chances, only managing to put one shot on goal in the first half.

Near the end of the first half, the Raptors appeared to break through. Off a broken play, the ball fell to Andres Javitt with the Harford goalkeeper out of position. Javitt shot on the empty net, but the ball struck a Raptor's player in an offside position before crossing the line, disallowing the goal. The teams went into half time tied 0-0.

The second half saw more of the same, with the Raptors driving even more possession in the final third and Harford repelling attacks. In the 63rd minute, Harford broke through. Harford goalkeeper Emanuele Moretti gathered a Sota Matsuo free kick and quickly unleashed a punt upfield in the path of Harford winger Kye Williams. Williams collected the ball, shed a Raptor's defender, and slotted home the shot for the only goal of the match. MC pushed late for an equalizier but failed to break through. With the win, Harford claim the top seed for the Region XX playoffs. The Raptors drop 11-3 for the season and travel to WVU Potomac State on Tuesday, October 11th for their next matchup.
