News mentions

After defeating the top ranked team in the country to qualify for the NJCAA Men's National Championship tournament, the Raptors were given the tough task of taking on the new number one seed. Taking down the number one team in the country two weeks in a row proved to be just barely too much to ask of the Raptors, as they fell to the Daytona State College Falcons 3-2 in the opening match of tournament.

In early September, the Raptors suffered their largest defeat of the season, falling 8-1 to the Monroe Mustangs. Their seasons diverged at that point; the Raptors fell out of the the national rankings while the Mustangs used an undefeated season to climb to #1 in the nation. Two months later, the teams met again and the Raptors exacted a measure of revenge, defeating the Mutangs 3-1 to win the NJCAA East District Championship and an automatic birth to the national tournament.

The Raptor's post season run continues after a 4-1 defeat of the Monroe Community College Tribunes on Saturday, October 29. The Tribunes came into the game ranked #18 in the country after recently losing the Region 3/15 Final against #3 ranked Monroe College. Well organized and playing with intent, the Raptors were able to overcome the threat and earn a spot in the East District Final against Monroe College.

In a rematch of the 2021 NJCAA Region XX Championship game, the Montgomery College Raptors hosted the Harford Community College Fighting Owls. For the fifth game in a row between the two teams, the outcome would be decided by a single goal, with the Raptors winning in overtime 3-2.

The Raptors hosted the CCBC Essex Knights in a match up of conference leaders on September 20, 2022. CCBC-Essex came into the game ranked #2 in NJCAA DII and tied with the Raptors for the MDJUCO conference lead. After a tightly contested match, the visiting Knights walked away with a 3-1 and the advantage on winning the Conference title.

Rockville, MD – The Men’s soccer team came into the Tom Bichy tournament hoping to bolster their preseason national ranking against some of the best teams on the East Coast. Instead, the Raptors left the tournament with a win and a loss and a better understanding of the task in front of them this season.
