Raptors Defeat Frederick In Overtime

Frederick, MD - Montgomery College wrapped up the 2022 regular season with a 3-2 win in overtime over the Frederick Community College Cougars. With the win, the Raptors finish the season 13-3, finishing third in MDJUCO with 27 points. 

For the third game in a row, the Raptors conceeded first when Cougars attacker Robert Watson found himself behind the defense and finished the opportunity in the 36th minute. The Raptors responded late in the first half. Sophomore Amadou Gaye touched a cross from Sota Matsuo into the path of Andres Javitt who was free at the far post for the easy finish. The teams went tied in the break at 1-1.

In the second half, the Cougars struck again, as Jackson Kincaid-Osbo scored in the 58th minute to restore a 2-1 lead for the home team. The Raptors found the equalizer late. Javitt flicked on a cross from midfielder Diego Ramirez to again find an open Raptor at the far post. Freshman Kevin Gomez headed home the goal to tie the game with less than ten minutes on the clock. 

In overtime, the Raptors dictated the play, not allowing a shot from Frederick. In the 10th minute of the first overtime period, the Raptors won a corner. With less than 30 seconds on the clock, Matsuo whipped in the cross finding freshman Ethan Lane free at the near post. Lane sidefooted the volley under the crossbar at the near post for the golden goal. 

The Raptors now return home to host the NJCAA Region XX Division One Final against Harford Community College on October 22, 2022.

 

Raptor Bites:

  • Freshman Ethan Lane's goal was his second of the season, his first coming off a penalty kick.
  • Sota Matsuo's two assists brought his total to 14. He is currently second in the nation in assists, trailing teammate Andres Javitt.
  • Javitt's goal was his 16th of the season, putting him second overall in the nation.
  • Last season (2021), the Raptors played the Cougars twice, winning 2-1 in the regular season and 1-0 in the Region XX semifinal. The Raptor's last road trip to Frederick was in the postponed 2020 season, where the Raptors lost the Region XX final in overtime.
