Raptors Women’s Soccer Run to 3-1 Victory in Home Opener Against Union CC

Leading by two goals at the half, Montgomery College women's soccer team continued to apply pressure on the final 45 minutes to finish with a 3-1 win over Union County College Owls, Sunday afternoon for its first win of the season.

Luisa Navas-Gonzalez and Paulina Molina scored in the 40th minute and 44th minute to give Montgomery a 2-0 lead at the half. The Raptors offense was still pushing on all cylinders in the final period, scoring one goal on ten shots.

Keyla Velasquez made it 3-0 in the 63rd minute on an excellent assist from Navas-Gonzalez. Freshman goalkeeper from Walter Johnson high school, Lizzy Mayo, was stellar in the crease for Montgomery making ten saves.

The Owl's only goal came in the 90th minute when Union's Alex Pardo ran down the left side to find the back of the net.

Weather permitting, Montgomery will host Monroe College on Saturday, September 4th, for a 5 p.m. kick at the Rockville Campus of Montgomery College.
