Montgomery College Women's Soccer Extends Winning Streak to Four Matches

The Montgomery College women's soccer team has extended their winning streak to four games after dispatching the College of Southern Maryland (6-2), Frederick (2-0), Richard Bland (8-1), and Christendom (5-1) over the last two weeks. The Raptors are now 7-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Raptors will be back in action on Tuesday, October 3rd at 6:00 pm against Garrett College and Thursday, October 5th at 6:00 pm against Hagerstown College, region opponent.

Frederick College:

After defeating a challenging College of Southern Maryland squad earlier in the week, the Raptors returned home to take on conference rival Frederick. Montgomery College didn't take long to take the lead as Natalia Sartor scored her second season goal from a Stephanie Windall assist in the sixth minute.

Although the Raptors controlled possession and opportunities, they would not get back on the board until the 61st minute when Natalie Zambrano slotted a penalty kick past the Frederick GK. The goal would be her third goal of the season. Ruby Lancaster and a stout defense kept Frederick off the board, earning the team their second shutout.

Richard Bland

A Mary Earles cross and Natalia Sartor finish got the home team on the board in the second minute against the Statesmen of Richard Bland College. Mary Earles then earned her first collegiate goal by slotting an Ayla Khorsand pass past the RBC GK to send the Raptors to the half with a 2-0 lead.

Montgomery College broke down the Statesmen's defense in the second half as Natalie Zambrano scored two goals from Sabrina Di Marzio corners to double the lead at 4-0. Within the next four minutes, the Raptors scored four more goals from Ayla Khorsand, Berenice Bahloul, and Sabrina Di Marzio (2) to take an 8-0 lead. RBC got their lone goal in the final minute to make the score 8-1. Sophia Soussi-Tanani and Natalie Fleitas shared responsibilities in the goal for the Raptors.

Christendom

After a couple of cancellations in the week, the Raptors were able to add Christendom College to the schedule on Saturday, September 30th. Montgomery College got a slow start as Christendom broke down the Raptor backline and took an early 1-0 lead in the 11th minute. Ayla Khorsand quickly replied by placing a Mary Earles pass into the back of the net to tie the game up at 1-1. Montgomery College would head into the locker room leading 2-1 at the half when Bahloul and Isabelle Watson had a remarkable combination play that broke down the Crusader backline and put Bahloul one-v-one with GK.

In the second half, Lesly Berrios was able to place a pass behind the opposition's backline for Watson to place past the GK, Angie Corpano Campos took a Bahloul pass and slipped it past the keeper on the near post, and then Zambrano was able to finish another Di Marzio corner to give the Raptors the 5-1 victory. Ruby Lancaster went the distance for Montgomery College in the goal.
