Montgomery College Raptors Appoint Ed Heberling as Women's Soccer Head Coach

August 8th, 2022 - Montgomery College Athletic Director Tarlouh Gasque is very proud to announce the hiring of Ed Heberling as the new head coach of the Montgomery College women's soccer team.

Heberling comes to Montgomery College after spending the last four years in Logan, UT. He served as an assistant coach on staff for two years with Utah State University and then moved to work with Real Salt Lake in their youth development academy while teaching at Green Canyon High School (GCHS). Heberling has an extensive background in coaching at various levels, including 17 years at the collegiate level. "I am excited to join the Raptor family at Montgomery College and build upon the program's success. I want to thank Tarlouh Gasque and Pedro Braz for the opportunity to lead the team into the next chapter of this storied program's success. I look forward to working with the players and staff to build a successful program on the field, in the classroom, and in the community," Ed Heberling said.

In addition, Heberling served on the soccer coaching staff for GCHS, where the boys won their first region title, and the girls made trips to the state quarterfinals. Heberling also coached club with Northern Utah United, where he served as the club goalkeeping coach and coached the Tsunami 04 girls' team to a third-place finish at the 2022 National President's Day Cup hosted by United States Youth Soccer.

Before moving to Utah, Heberling started the women's soccer program at the University of South Carolina Beaufort. In seven seasons, Heberling guided the NAIA program from its infancy to a competitive program in the NAIA and region. The Sand Sharks were Sun Conference tournament qualifiers for five seasons and made the semifinals for one season. USCB had eight all-conference performers and 13 Academic All-Conference performers during his tenure.
In 2010 Heberling was hired to direct the men's soccer team and start the women's soccer team at Tri-County Technical College in Pendleton, SC. In Heberling's lone season leading the Hawks, the men's team set a new record for most wins in a season while also qualifying for the Region 10 post-season tournament.

Heberling earned his collegiate coaching start at Iowa Wesleyan University (IWU), his alma mater, where he resurrected the women's program and assisted the men's coach. Heberling took over a winless program and was able to create a competitive team, consistently finishing in the top half of the Midwest Collegiate Conference of the NAIA. Heberling left IWU in 2010 as the winningest coach in program history, with many of his former players still holding spots in the school's record book.

In addition to coaching soccer, Ed is also a co-host of the podcast Ball Side, Goal Side and is happily married to his wife Laura, with their two sons, Hollis and Hayes.
