Raptors Women's Soccer Defeat Harford Community College in OT 1-0 to Capture Region XX DI Championship

On Saturday, October 30th, the top-seeded Montgomery College Raptors are the 2021 Region XX DI Women's Soccer Champions, scoring in the fourth minute of extra time defeating the Harford CC Fighting Owls. The last time the Raptors were in a Region XX Final, they lost to Harford CC 4-2. in 2018.

The match on Saturday was even through the first half as both teams had five shots, but the second half was different. The Raptors had 17 shots in the second half, and the Harford Goalkeeper had to make 12 saves to keep the match even. The Raptors were creating opportunities, but the shots were going everywhere but in the goal.

Raptor's goalkeeper Lizzy Mayo made seven saves to record her fourth shutout of the season. Raptors' leading goal scorer, Luisangely Navas Gonzalez, was an offensive threat the entire game, with 12 shots and six on target, and one finding the back of the net. In the 94th minute, Rainier Kirksey-Walcott made a run towards the goal and had her shot deflected, and the ball found its way to the feet of Navas Gonzalez, who blasted her shot past the Fighting Owls' goalie to give the Raptors the walk-off win.

The Raptors will travel to New Rochelle, NY, to play Monroe College on Friday, November 5th at 1:00 pm in the NJCAA DI East District Championship.
