Raptors Track and Field Competes at Elon University

The Montgomery College track and field team kicked off the 2025 Outdoor Track & Field season at the Phoenix Invitational at Elon University in the beautiful state of North Carolina. The weather conditions were overcast and chilly, but during the late morning, the sun broke to allow for the best performances by the athletes. This was the first collegiate race of Kendall Wideman and Chisenga Mwape. Coach Nelson is pleased with the results of his freshman's overall performance considering the long trip, first-meet jitter, and excitement. The training has been progressing and consistent for these student-athletes. They know they can do better and will do better this week in Virginia.

Kendall placed 3rd in the High Jump. Kendall had to dial back on some attempts to get used to the speed of the surface. Kendall knows he can clear higher bars with each meet his confidence will grow and he have some positive takeaways going into the next competition. In the Long Jump Kendall got off the board to a season's best 6.67 meters placing 3rd. Kendal is just getting started, the best is yet to come. Kendall tested his speed development by running the 100 meters in 11.79.

Chisenga Mwape competed in his first-ever 400 meters with no experience and expectations going into the race. He gave himself a fighting chance at the start and held on to finish with a time of 58.40 seconds. Chisenga returned later in the meet to run the 200 meters into a strong headwind finishing with a time of 25.64. After the race, he was not pleased with the time but accepted and is ready to redeem himself next week.
