Raptors Compete At The Betty S. Rogers Invitational

The Montgomery College Track and Field team kicked off the 2024 outdoor season at the Betty S. Rogers Spring Break Invitational over the weekend in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The weather on the second day of the competition was sunny and clear, unlike the rain showers on Friday. This was the first collegiate race of Xavier Tran, Albert Lahai, and Lattera Dakka. Coach Nelson is pleased with the results of his freshman's overall performance considering only having a short fall and winter conditioning program leading up to the start of the season. The training has been progressing and consistent for these athletes. They know they can do better and will do better this week in North Carolina.

Xavier Tran placed 5th out of 13 runners, he got out to a great start to his race for 300 meters but could not hold the momentum down the home stretch. Xavier knows he can finish better and have some positive takeaways going into the next race.

Lattera Dakka competed in his first ever 1500 meters with no experience and expectations going into the race. He gave himself a fighting chance at the start and held on to take 5th in the race. Dakka returned later in the meet to run the 800 meters which is stated to be his race. Toward the middle of the race, he took matters into his own hands and passed his teammate to a 2nd place finish. After the race, he was not pleased with the time but accepted and is ready to redeem himself later this week.

Albert Lahai was excited to compete but is glad to know this is only the first race of many to come. He is looking to regain his strength and focus on next week's opportunity to improve his time. Albert placed 3rd in the 800 meters. Here is the link for the results of the Betty S. Rogers Spring Break Invitational https://www.tfrrs.org/results/81259
