Raptors Volleyball Kill it in First Volleyball Game of the Season

Montgomery College opened their 2021 Fall season with a 3-0 straight-set win over visiting Frederick Community College on Tuesday, August 24th. In front of fans for the first time in over a year, the Raptors put on a strong show, outscoring Frederick 25-11, 25-18, and 25-17. In addition to notching their first win of the season, Coach Kenno was able to get some valuable experience for the squad – with all available players seeing action in at least one set.

The team excelled with some great defense totaling 41 digs led by sophomore Simay Aybak (11) playing libero. Freshmen Helen Federline and Madison West also started their MC careers in style, recording six and four digs respectively.

On offense, Kira Ng had 15 assists, setting up Jaelyn Jackson and Nataliya Chepurnova, who led with five kills each.

The team looks towards a busy weekend, hosting three matches. On Saturday, September 4th, the Raptors will host Allegany College of Maryland at noon. On Sunday, they face Washington Adventist University (Noon) and Pacific Union College (2:00 PM) on the Rockville Campus. Games are open to the public with masks required.
