Raptors Volleyball End Season at The National Championship Tournament

The Raptors volleyball team was the 15th seed entering the NJCAA DII Championship Tournament in Charleston, WV, where they had a, had a tough draw. Montgomery College matched up against the #2 seed Coffeyville CC, the two-time defending National Champions in the first round of the tournament.

The Raptors scored the first point of the match with a service ace by Skyler Thiessen but then fell behind as Coffeyville took the first set 8-25. The defeating champs made a statement in the opening match that they were there to continue their reign, but Montgomery didn't give up or take any plays off. The Raptors just couldn't put a solid attack together that could penetrate Coffeyville's front-line blocking. Offensively, Anya Chepurnova led the way for the Raptors with eight kills and two service aces followed by Keturah Gregory, who recorded a .600 hitting percentage on four kills and recorded the only block solo for MC in the match. The Raptors continued to improve with each set against Coffeyville but fell in straight sets, 8-25, 10-25, 17-25, to move into the consolation bracket.

The Raptors put forth an outstanding effort in the consolation match on Friday morning but fell to Northeast Community College in straight sets 22-25, 23-25, 19-25. Keturah Gregory was exceptional both offensively and defensively, recording a .273 hitting percentage with nine kills and four blocks. Daniella Zajac led the Raptors offensively with 12 kills and recorded a .233 hitting percentage with 11 digs, and Anya Chepurnova followed up with 11 kills and pitched in 15 digs. Kira Ng tallied 29 assists, and 12 digs and Skyler Thiessen added 12 digs. Lindsay Nyunja added three kills in the team's last match of the season.

The Raptors ended their season as NJCAA DII Region XX and Mid-Atlantic District Champions with a record of 21-7 and finished as one of the top 16 teams in the nation in Division II.
