Raptors Defeat Hagerstown in NJCAA Region XX Semifinal

Rockville, MD - The women's soccer team opened up post-season play on Saturday, October 29th at home in the NJCAA Region XX Semifinal against Hagerstown Community College. With a victory, the Raptors (10-4) would advance to the Region XX Final to play Harford Community College. Having defeated Hagerstown 4-1 just two weeks ago, the Raptors entered the game as favorites.

Hagerstown was not interested in playing to type however, and their defensive shape frustrated the Raptors in the early stages of the match. The Raptors were able to maintain possession and control the tempo, but remained unable to break through until the 33rd minute. Maila Hudson received the ball near midfield and slipped a pass through the Hawk's center backs to Madelyn Guerra who struck it passed the Hagerstown keeper for the 1-0 lead. 

The score would remain 1-0 until the 50th minute when Emilia Webb broke the Hawks defensive line with a through ball to Guerra who placed the shot in the back of the net. The Raptors added a a third goal in the 74th minute when Ayla Khorsand took a Guerra pass and rifled it past the Hagerstown goalkeeper.  

Defensively, the Raptors were able to hold the Hawks to two shots, with goalkeeper Lizzy Mayo only called to make one save. The shutout, the seventh of the season, was the first for the Raptors since September 27th when they beat Union College 2-0.  

Montgomery College will now host Harford College on Wednesday, November 2nd at 4:00 pm. The match will be played at the soccer stadium on the Rockville campus with the winner advancing to district final being played on Saturday, November 5th.
