Raptors Go One and One in Conference Play Against CCBC Essex and Anne Arundel

Rockville - The Raptors lost their first conference game on September 20th to CCBC Essex.

Montgomery College struggled in possession, only creating three shots in the match. However, the Raptor backline held strong, keeping the team in the game. While the Raptors gave up 22 shots, 13 were off target. Lizzy Mayo continued her superb form in making eight saves against the Knights and conceding only one goal. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak and the Essex goal was the first to get through Montgomery College since the opening match against Monroe College.

The women's soccer team then hit the road for the first time in 2022 as they traveled to Arnold, MD to compete against Anne Arundel on September 22nd. AACC came into the contest ranked #5 in the NJCAA D3 poll. On an extremely windy day both teams struggled to find the back of the net. The Raptors were able to get on the board early as Mara Pizzano was able to pick up a loose ball in the box and slot it past the Riverhawk goalkeeper. This was Pizzano's first goal of the season and came in the 14th minute.  The Riverhawks were able to tie the game off a corner as the ball went straight in the goal after Lizzy Mayo got a finger on the cross.  Regulation would finish at 1-1 and for the first time the Raptors would head into overtime. It did not take long for Montgomery College to score as a corner kick in the 96th minute was partially cleared by the Riverhawks and came to Aidan Carpen's foot about 25 yards out from goal. Carpen was able to play the ball back into the box and it went over the diving GK to give the Raptors a 2-1 win and move their conference record to 3-1 on the season. Mayo finished the game with six saves for Montgomery College.
