Raptors Women’s Soccer Season Ends in NJCAA Region XX DI Championship Match

On a cold and rainy day Saturday in Baltimore, the 2018 women's soccer season came to an end as the Raptors loss to the #1 seed Harford Fighting Owls 4-2 in the NJCAA Region XX DI Championship match.

After falling behind early in the match to Harford, Ariella Amaguana headed a perfect ball past the keeper, sent in by Elise Couturier, to tie up the match 1-1 in the 7thminute of play. Harford would go on and score twice more before halftime. Gabriela Fernandez would score in the 65thminute but second half chances were limited in the second half, as Harford locked down on defense and scored their final goal in the72nd minute to secure the win.

The Raptors defeated CCBC Essex 5-2 in the semifinal match to advance to the final to Face Harford. Montgomery's prior lost was on September 11th to Harford CC to a score of 2-1. The Fighting Owls were the only MDJUCO team the Raptors lost to in conference play during the 2018 campaign. Montgomery finished their 2018 season 12-3 overall and 7-1 in the MDJUCO to claim the 2018 Maryland Juco Championship title. 

This is the second MDJUCO title for Coach Nana and the Raptors since their 2016 season. The Raptors led the conference (and 7thin the nation) in goals with 104, lead the conference in assists with 52, and lead the Nation in goals scored per game with 6.93. 

Ariella Amaguana, Viviana Rodriguez and Gabriela Fernandez were named to the 2018 NJCAA DI All-Region First Team while Maggie Prokop was named as a 2018 NJCAA DI All-Region Honorable Mention.
