Nationally Ranked Women's Basketball Finishes 5-1 in Tough January Schedule

The MC women's basketball team is cruising along with a 5-1 record in the month of January leaving teams like Frederick, CCBC Catonsville, and Brookdale CC in their wake. Their only loss came against Harford CC, a Division I team that remains undefeated in the MDJUCO.  

The Raptors average the third most points per game in the nation scoring 83 points per game and the team averages the most steals of anyone in the country averaging 22.4 takeaways.  

On Saturday, January 21, the Raptors defeated Frederick CC on the road 89-52. Caleema Johnson led the way with a season-high 31 points 17 rebounds, and nine steals followed up by Armonie Lomax adding 23 points and seven steals in Montgomery's 37-point victory.  

On Wednesday, January 25, Montgomery College got off to a slow start against Harford CC scoring only 11 points in the first quarter to Harford's 22 points. MC sophomore Sheri Addison scored a team-high 28 points in the 106-72 defeat.

On Saturday, January 28, the MC Raptors got back to their winning way as they dropped CCBC Catonsville 77-58. Johnson had herself another impressive stat line recording a game-high 25 points and 14 rebounds alongside Lomax who contributed 20 points and 11 rebounds in the Raptors 19-point victory.

On Sunday, January 29, Montgomery College picked up another win against Brookdale Community College out of NJ 95-53. Sheri Addison led the way for the Raptors with 27 points and eight rebounds, followed by her cousin Caleema Johnson who added 20 points, ten rebounds and six steals. MC freshman Anu Bamijoko, who averages 11.6 rebounds per game stepped up to contribute 10 points and 20 rebounds while teammate Tyra Lyles came off the bench to scored 11 points in the in the 42-point victory over the Region XIX opponent.  

Freshman guard, Caleema Johnson averages 19.9 points and 9.2 rebounds per game and is second in the country in steals with 104 on the season thus far. Armoni Lomax is averaging an impressive 20.9 points and 8.8 rebounds per game and is ninth in in the country in steals with 74 while Sheri Addison round off the big three averaging 18.8 points per game.  

The women's basketball team is still sitting at #7 in the NJCAA poll with a 16-4 record overall, and 8-2 in the MDJUCO tied for 3rd in the conference.
