MC Softball Continues to Build With Victories Over Anne Arundel, Sussex and Garrett

The Montgomery College Raptors softball team have split three out of five doubleheaders this season, and the Raptors are 4-8 on the season.  

On March 9 the MC softball team defeated Garrett College 9-8 in walk-off fashion in the first game of a doubleheader and the second game was canceled due to darkness. Raptors freshman Alexandra Iacino recorded a triple on her only hit of the game and recorded two runs while teammate Abbey Kitchelt recorded three RBIs on the day, which included the game-winning run. Kitchelt also pitched a complete game allowing ten hits with five earned runs and receded seven strikeouts in the victory over Garrett College.  

On March 12 the Montgomery College softball team dropped a game against Middlesex County College 18-3 that was supposed to be a doubleheader but the second game was canceled due to weather. The team split a doubleheader against Anne Arundel CC on March 17 falling 23-3 in game one and winning 8-2 in the nightcap. The next day the Raptors hosted Sussex County Community College where they split the doubleheader winning game one 9-4 and falling in game two 11-1. The Raptors finished their March schedule with a tough fight against Harford Community College dropping both games of the twin bill 17-2 and 12-3.  

Freshman pitcher, Abbey Kitchelt has been stellar on the mound for the Raptors as she currently leads the MDJUCO conference in strikeouts (54) and tied for first in complete games pitched (6) and is fourth among pitchers for most innings pitched (52.2) in the conference. She has faced the most batters of any pitcher in our conference (272) and averaged 7.18 strikeouts per 7 innings in March.
