Raptors Men's Soccer Wins Fourth Straight, Defeating Howard CC in Extra Time 2-1

Continuing their strong start, Montgomery College men's soccer team defeated Howard Community College Dragons in extra time 2-1 on Saturday, May 1st. This win gives them 12 points in the Conference standings and bumps them into second in the MDJUCO, tied with CCBC Catonsville.

The Raptors struck first with freshman standout Anthony Jimenez scoring in the 32nd minute off a stunning free-kick that found the top left corner of the goal.

In the 81st minute, the Dragons tied the game 1-1, capitalizing on a turnover in midfield and hitting the Raptors on an effective counterattack. Neither team was able to find a late winner, and the game went into overtime.

With just over a minute left in the first overtime period, Joseph Kitengie created an opportunity from an entry pass from midfielder Khalb Mesfin. With a sharp first touch turns to his left at the top of the box, Kitengie got in behind the Howard backline and his second touch shot found the far corner. The "golden goal" gave the Raptors the 2-1 win, keeping their record perfect on the season. Kitengie has scored the game-winning goal in all four Raptors matches this season, and the strike against Howard brought his total to 15.

The victory puts the Raptors in a position to challenge current leaders CCBC Essex and CCBC Catonsville for the regular season conference title. While fans are not currently allowed to attend games due to COVID restrictions, all Raptors' home games will be streamed live on MC Raptor's YouTube channel.
