Richard Bland Defeats Montgomery College in High-Scoring Affair

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Baseball team took on the Raptors of Montgomery College (MD) at Iron Bridge Sports Park Tuesday afternoon. After completion of the game, the Statesmen moved to 5-3 overall, 1-2 in conference play after defeating the Raptors 12-11.

 

In the game, the bats were blistered as the Statesmen outshined Montgomery College. Richard Bland collected 14 hits, while the Raptors had eight. Richard Bland did not take the lead until later in the game. The game was tied at 11 in the bottom of the seventh when Samuel Young singled, scoring one run. Montgomery College opened the scoring in the first inning, and added to their early lead in the top of the second. Richard Bland scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. An error scored on run, Macho Santiago hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Jordan Ramsey doubled, scoring one run, and Myles Holmes homered to center field, scoring two runs. Michael Duncan and Holmes each collected three hits for the Statesmen, while Santiago and Holmes each drove in three runs. Ryan Paul earned the win for Richard Bland. The right-handed pitcher allowed zero hits and zero runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking none. Keegan Mahoney led things off on the bump for the Statesmen. The left-handed pitcher allowed five hits and seven runs over two innings, striking out three and walking two. Connor Smith, Will Holdren, Adam Tatham, and Michael Wingo eac came on in relief for Richard Bland and shutdown Montgomery College.

 

The Richard Bland College Baseball team next travels to Pitt Community College for a three-game, weekend series. Games one and two are set for a 1pm doubleheader on Saturday, February 22nd, and game three will take place at 12pm on Sunday, February 23rd.
