HAGERSTOWN BASEBALL STRUGGLE AGAINST RAPTORS

HAGERSTOWN BASEBALL STRUGGLE AGAINST RAPTORS

Having lost 7 of their last 8 contests, HCC Baseball was hopeful of getting back on the winning track this past Saturday (April 5th) against a well-known opponent in the Montgomery College Raptors. Those hopes unfortunately fell short as they were swept by MC in two extremely tight games that both came down to the wire.

Starting the first game, freshman pitcher, Gene Magin, delivered a gem for the Hawks as he recorded 9 Ks over 7 innings, while only allowing 5 hits, 1 run, and no walks. It was everything you could have asked from your starting arm, and he did not disappoint. Meanwhile, the Hawks offense could not get anything going at the plate against Montgomery's ace, Hudson House, who only allowed 4 hits total on the day and fanned 11 batters. House proceeded to go the distance for the Raptors and seal the victory for MC in extra innings. The lone RBI by the Hawks was produced by sophomore 3B, Griffin Lowman which tied the game up in the bottom of the 6th inning. But a leadoff single, followed by a few errors, led to a 3-run implosion by Hagerstown which they could not overcome with only 3 outs remaining.

The second game had a bit of a different trajectory as the Raptors quickly got out to a 5-0 lead through just 2 innings. The Hawks were still cold at the plate but were able to stay patient and take advantage of some timely walks and hits which enabled them to chip away slowly over the next 3 innings, making the score 5-4 going into the 7th. Freshmen Kyle Lore and Briggs Remenick, along with sophomore Noah Milum each recorded an RBI down the stretch, setting up for an exciting final act. But a quick double play followed by a fly out stopped the comeback before it could even get started, allowing Montgomery to complete the sweep.

The Hawks will have extended rest this week, which will allow them to collect themselves and turn the page towards a surging CCBC Catonsville team this weekend. They are slated to come to town this Saturday, April 12th, for a doubleheader starting at Noon (second game starts at approx. 2:30PM) at Hawks Baseball Field. Please consider coming out to the ballpark to cheer on the home team! GO HAWKS!
