Cougars Walk-Off in a Pitcher’s Duel Against Montgomery 2-1
It was a nail-biting pitching duel on Sunday, with the Frederick CC Cougars baseball team clinching a thrilling 2-1 victory in ten innings over the Montgomery College Raptors. This victory in the semifinal game of the NJCAA Region 20 DII Semifinal was sealed with a walk-off hit.
The Cougars' Jake Crawford delivered an outstanding performance, allowing only seven hits and one run over six innings. He struck out a career-high 12 batters and walked just one. Joey Serafin also played a crucial role, throwing four innings of scoreless ball for Frederick, earning his sixth win of the season. He allowed four hits, struck out three, and walked two.
The Raptors got on the board first in the second inning, but the answer came from the Cougars in the third inning as Nick Keane doubled to drive in his 52nd RBI on the season.
Jake Holler hit into a fielder's choice, but Josh Erd beat the throw to score and tallied his second run of the game to give the Cougars the walk-off victory.
Despite only scoring two runs, the Cougars tallied nine hits in the game. Josh Erd and Nick Varda each collected two hits for FCC.
The Cougars advance to the Championship game, where they will face #2 Montgomery College on Monday, May 13, at 12 pm. If Montgomery were to win, a game seven would take place 20 minutes after the conclusion of game six to determine the Region 20 Champion in this double-elimination format.
