Montgomery Edges No. 9 Women's Soccer in OT

ARNOLD, MD – The ninth-ranked Anne Arundel Community College women's soccer team fell to visiting Division I Montgomery, 2-1, in overtime on a windy Thursday evening at Siegert Field. AACC tied the game, 1-1, early in the second half on a goal by Cassidy Smith.

Mara Pizzano scored for the Raptors off a corner set in the 14th minute. Smith tied the game in the 60th minute by bending in a corner kick attempt.

AACC peppered Montgomery keeper Lizzy Mayo with five shots in the second half, only to see the game go to extra time.

Aided by a gust of wind, Pizzano scored with a long, lofty shot in the 94th minute that sailed just out of reach of AACC keeper Kaitlyn Kenney and under the crossbar. Kenney finished with four saves in the game.

On paper the game was even with each team recording 11 shots and AACC holding a slim 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.

The Riverhawks continue Region 20 action at Howard Community College in a 4 p.m. game on Wednesday, September 28.
