Seahawks Split Weekend Tri-Match

ROCKVILLE - Cecil College volleyball headed to the road on Saturday afternoon for a tri-match with host Montgomery and Garrett. After falling in the opener to the Raptors, the Seahawks pulled together a five-set victory over the Lakers in their second match.

With this weekend's results, the Seahawks move to 2-6 (1-3 Region 20) on the season.

Match 1: Montgomery 3, Cecil 0 - Box Score

Despite having more total attacks than the Raptors, Cecil scored just 15 kills compared to Montgomery's 27. The hosts showed a strong defensive effort and recorded 60 digs on the afternoon.

Strong runs in the middle of sets one and two guided the Raptors to a 2-0 lead. Cecil kept things much closer in set three, but Montgomery pulled away at the end of the match by scoring six of the set's final seven points.

Freshman Etta Harris led the Seahawks with nine kills. On defense, Katarina Kuchera tallied 12 digs.

Match 2: Cecil 3, Garrett 2 - Box Score

A seesaw battle between the Lakers and Seahawks served up five tense sets. The two teams traded 25-20 victories in sets one and two respectively. Cecil got off to a fast start in set three, claiming eight of the first nine points. This was enough boost the Seahawks to a 25-17 victory and a 2-1 lead.

Cecil put Garrett on the ropes, going ahead 23-18 late in the fourth. The Lakers woke up and ripped off seven straight points to force a deciding set. Garrett's comeback ended there, as the Seahawks took set five with a dominant 15-5 showing.

On offense, Etta Harris and Ryleigh Racine combined for 27 kills in the win. Rachel Mullins recorded 36 of the team's 39 assists.
