LADY HAWKS GET BACK ON TRACK AGAINST RAPTORS

The Hagerstown CC softball team took a trip down I-270 last evening to take on the Montgomery College Raptors in a region 20/MDJUCO matchup of two teams looking to get off the schneid. And the Lady Hawks did just that with a banner day on the Rockville campus.

In the first game, it was freshman pitcher, Brooklyn Deibert, who was the rising tide. She pitched a complete game on the bump, only conceding 5 hits and adding 3 punch-outs. Not to mention that she considerably helped her own cause at the plate by adding a double, a triple, and 4 RBIs to top off the stellar day. Freshman shortstop, Bethany Higgins (South Hagerstown HS), went 3-3, with 2 RBIs and 2 walks in the leadoff spot, while Brooke Buhrman, Morgan "Buzz" Gutteridge, and Cayleigh Laughlin added 2 hits each to put the game away early by a score of 12-4 in 6 innings.

In game two, The Raptors were a bit feistier as they made pitcher Savannah Brosius work to earn the W. They were able to score 10 runs on 16 hits and constantly put pressure on the Lady Hawks to keep pace. But the story was the offensive firepower yet again for Hagerstown as freshmen, Brooke Buhrman and Alexis Jones each went 3-5 with both players adding a triple to their stat line. Buhrman added 4 RBIs, while Jones added 2 herself to help the Lady Hawks match their run total from the first game (12). Despite a late rally by Montgomery in which they scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th, Brosius slammed the door on the comeback bid to help the Hawks achieve the sweep by a score of 12-10.

The two wins were much needed for a Lady Hawks team that has battled copious amounts of adversity so far in their young season. They hope to carry the momentum forward as they host Frederick CC this coming Saturday, April 5th at 12PM/2PM at Hawks Softball Field (to view the remaining schedule click here). Please consider coming out to the ball field to root on the home team!
