Raptors Volleyball Finish Historic Season 28-1

The Montgomery College Raptors fantastic season came to an end Saturday, November 3rd at College of Southern MD in the NJCAA Region XX DII Volleyball Tournament Final against Northern Virginia Nighthawks.

The Raptors volleyball team dominated the first two rounds of the tournament as MC swept Garrett College in quarterfinal round (25-4, 25-9, 25-11) and Hagerstown in the semifinal (25-11, 25-22, 25-16). The Raptors NJCAA Region XX DII Runner-up after falling to the Nighthawks in the championship game 3-1 (23-25, 13-25, 25-14, 19-25).

First-year Raptors Skyler Thiessen, Isabel Nelligan & Anna Chepurnova, were named to the All-Region Tournament Team. Thiessen recorded 50 digs in the three matches while Nelligan logged 30 kills and 32 digs with a hitting percentage .352 for the tournament. Chepurnova was a dominant force on the court with a .597 hitting percentage for the tournament and recorded 49 kills and 25 digs in over the three matches. She also tied her season-best 21 kills in the final game against NOVA.

Talyah Huss added a season-high 39 assists in the final game against NOVA and added 35 assists in the semifinal against Hagerstown. She finished with 96 assists in the tournament along with 39 digs for the Raptors. Teammate Keyshiana Fennicks added 18 kills and 3 serves aces in the tournament.

The Raptors had a historic season going 26-0 in the regular season and finished 28-1 and won the 2018 MDJUCO Championship Title first time in school history.
