Raptors Volleyball Sweep Harford and Northern Virginia to Remain Unbeaten

The Montgomery volleyball team totaled 108 team points, in a pair of three-set victories at APGFCU Arena on September 10th. The Raptors downed Division I Harford CC Fighting Owls (25-17, 25-16, 25-16) and Northern Virginia CC Nighthawks (25-22, 28-26, 25-21), a Division II out of Region XX to continue their unbeaten streak. 

Raptors freshman Keturah Gregory led the team in with seven total blocks on the day accompanied by Anna Chepurnova 27 kills. The duo of freshmen hitters combined for 50 points between both matches.

Montgomery held Harford CC to only a .012 hitting percentage while blocking four balls and digging 39. In addition to the heavy hitting of Gregory and Chepurnova, freshman outside hitter Isabel Nelligan totaled 11 kills and ten digs with a hitting percentage of .381 in the match against Harford.

Freshman libero Skyler Thiessen tallied nine digs in the first match and followed up with 17 digs in the second match against NOVA. Sophomore outside hitter, Linel Perez was efficient with her attacks as she notched a .444 hitting percentage, five for nine, in the game against Harford and a .429 hitting percentage, three for seven, in the match against NOVA. 

Montgomery held the Nighthawks to a .100 hitting percentage in the third set to win it 25-21, the largest margin of victory in the match. Chepurnova came up immensely scoring the last two points for the Raptors with two big kills in the final set to give the Raptors the win. 

Now standing at 8-0, Montgomery College Raptors next two games will be at home. MC will play CCBC Essex on Tuesday, September 18th at 6:00 p.m. and on Thursday, September 20th the Raptors will play Howard CC at 6:00 p.m. Both Games will be played on the Rockville Campus in the main gym.
