Head Coach Phil Nana, along with his assistant coaches and a couple current women’s soccer student athletes, welcomed over a dozen committed signees to Montgomery last weekend. In a small closed event 14 future MC Raptors signed their National Letters of Intent to play for Coach Phil and the Montgomery women’s soccer program this upcoming year.

On a cold and rainy day Saturday in Baltimore, the 2018 women’s soccer season came to an end as the Raptors loss to the #1 seed Harford Fighting Owls 4-2 in the NJCAA Region XX DI Championship match.

The Montgomery College women’s soccer team are the 2018 Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference Champions as the Raptors are 7-1 in conference play! MC finished the regular season on an 11 game winning streak that dates back September 15th and has outscored their opponents 97-16. The Raptors are 6th in Division I women’s soccer in goals scored and lead the nation in goals scored per game with an average of 7.46 goals per game.

On Thursday October 4th the Raptors women’s soccer team showed that they were the better team in a 4-2 victory over the Howard CC Dragons. Ariella Amaguana and Makenzee Hook both netted first half goals and Elise Couturier and Gabriela Fernandez each added goals in the second to hold off their neighboring rivals and hand the Dragons their first conference defeat of the season.

Montgomery scored two first-half goals, led by a two-score performance from sophomore Viviana Rodriguez and the third goal coming from Alexa Escobar as the Raptors took down ASA College 3-0 Saturday afternoon. This victory comes after the Raptors played two road games and outscored their opponents 24-2.

The Montgomery College Raptors soccer program has officially opened their 2018-19 season this past Saturday, August 27, hosting Rowan College at Gloucester County. The NJCAA DIII Region XIX Roadrunners traveled from Sewell, NJ to face the Raptors in a competitive match that ended with Rowan College at GC defeating Montgomery 2-1.

Coach Phil and the Raptors are looking to build on the program’s success and compete for a national championship. The Raptors are looking for players of all positions who have experience and want to play at a high level. Players must be a registered full-time student to participate on the team. Mandatory team tryouts will be held August 8th – 22nd, from 8:00-10:00 a.m. and 12:00-2:00 p.m. on the Rockville Campus on the lower field. Everyone trying out must have a current physical, and all MC forms filled out and turned into Coach Phil.  If anyone should have questions or are interested in trying out for the team, please contact head coach Phil Nana at Phil.nana@montgomerycollege.edu or 240-567-4065.
