Nationally Ranked Women's Soccer Defeated Previously Unbeaten Potomac State College; Claim the #1 Seed in Region Tourney

The #2 nationally ranked Montgomery College women's soccer team defeated previously unbeaten Potomac State College on Saturday to claim the #1 seed in the NJCAA Region XX DIII Soccer Tournament. 

The team defeated Potomac State 6-1 without the team's leading scorer, Jamie Montgomery. Potomac State entered the game with a 9-0-1 recorded and the top spot in Region XX. 

Raptor's team captain Alejandra Ramos found her teammate Nathaly Alvear to open up the scoring in the eighth minute of play. Five minuted later, Martha Mulugeta scored the teams second goal off a corner kick served up by Alvear. Potomac got onto the board before halftime to cut into MC's lead 2-1. 

The second half was all MC! A minute into the second half Mulugeta scored her second goal of the game followed up by two goals from Ramos and an unassisted goal by Claire Couturier

The Region XX women's soccer tournament bracket features the top four teams in the region and will begin with the semifinals. Both rounds of the tournament will be played at Howard Community College. No. 1 Montgomery will take on No. 4 Anne Arundel on Oct. 28 at 12 noon., followed by No. 2 Potomac State vs. No. 3 Howard. The championship game will be held on Oct. 30 at 2 p.m.
