Women's Soccer Wins 10th Straight, Moves Up to #2 In the Nation

The Montgomery College women's soccer is currently ranked 2nd in the nation with a perfect record of 8-0 in the MDJUCO Conference and 12-2 overall. MC's Nathaly Alvear leads the nation in assists. 

The Raptors continue to run over their competition! This week the team defeated Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) and Brookdale Community College (CC) on the road and Frederick Community College (CC) at home to push their winning streak to 10 games. 

On October 11, the Raptors defeated conference opponent AACC, 8-1. Jamie Montgomery led the charge scoring four goals in the first half and finished with six goals that evening. 

Claire Couturier and Nathaly Alvear each added a goal to round out the Raptors scoring. Coming into this game, the last opponent to score on the Raptors was Harford CC on September 7.

The Raptors defeated Frederick CC 5-2 at home on October 14. Frederick scored the first goal of the game in the 23rd minute but their lead only lasted about a minute as Nathaly Alvear evened the game with a goal for MC. 

Before the end of the first half Alvear found teammate Alejandra Ramos who scored to give MC a one-goal lead going into half time. Ariella Amaguana scored quickly out of halftime to give the Raptors a 3-1 lead, but Frederick cut the lead back to one scoring off a free kick from 19 yards out. MC went back on the attack and Alvear found the back of the net in the 60th minute. Later, Alvear would find Ramos again to set up the final goal of the game. 

MC defeated Brookedale CC on the road, 4-2. Montgomery tallied the first four goals of the game from Amaguana, Ramos, Montgomery and Gaelin Hirabayashi. Brookedale's goals were scored off two penalty kicks in the final nine minutes of the game. 

Alvear continues to lead the nation in assists with 26 and followed by three people with 14 assists each and teammate, Amaguana rounds out the top five with 13 assists. In 14 games, the Raptors women's soccer team averages 5.85 goals per game, off 20.2 shots per game and allowing only eight goals to be scored their opponents. 

The team will play their final two games of the regular season on Wednesday October 19 at Rowan Gloucester and on Saturday, October 22 at Potomac State.
