Raptors Women's Basketball Takes 5th at NJCAA DIII Tournament

The Montgomery College Raptors women's basketball team finished in 5th place in Rockford, IL at the 2017-18 NJCAA Division III Championship Tournament. This ties the Raptors best finishes from their 2012 & 2013 national tournament appearances.  

The Raptors women's basketball team entered the tournament as the No. 4 seeded team and got off to a slow start in the first game falling to No. 5 Northland College (MN), the No. 5 seed, 76-58. The team's previous game was 19 days before their first game in the National Tournament and the rust evident. However, Alandra Bandy showed she came to play as she scored 17 points and recorded four steals while Armonie Lomax added 12 points in their first contest in March.  

The Raptors fell into the consolation bracket of the National Tournament where the women bounced back defeating No. 8 Rowan College - Gloucester County (NJ) in their second match 74-56. Bandy netted a game-high 17 points and pulled down 16 rebounds to post her third double-double of the season. Lomax scored 16 points and recorded five rebounds, four assists, and two steals while teammate Lauren Nelson 13 points, six rebounds, two steals, and two assists in the 18-point victory where the Raptors advanced to play in the 5th place final.  

In the final game of the tournament, the Raptors defeated No. 7 Onondaga Community College (NY) 74-54 to claim 5th place in the NJCAA DIII Women's Basketball Championship Tournament. Lomax tallied a game-high 24 points and went 10 for ten from the free throw line and Saraphina Pierre-Louis recorded 11 points, 12 rebounds, and two steals. Sarah Olsen added ten points and pulled down nine rebounds in the 20-point win in the teams final game of the season.  

Armonie Lomax was selected to the NJCAA All-Tournament Team as she scored 52 points in the tournament. Lomax averaged 17.3 points per game, four rebounds per game, 2.3 steals per game and 1.6 assists per game over the three-day Championship Tournament!  

The Raptors finished their season with an overall record of 22-7 and 5th place in the country out of 100 Division 3 teams.
