The Women’s Basketball Team Captures Back to Back NJCAA DIII Region XX Championship and Tallies 20th Win of the Season

The Raptors women's basketball team defended their NJCAA DIII Region XX Title by defeating Westmoreland County Community College 85-66 which marks the team's 20th win of the season. On February 25, the top-seeded Raptors got off to a good first quarter start taking a 22-14 lead, but Wolfpack of Westmoreland came back by capitalizing on MC errors. Westmoreland started hitting shots and capitalizing on MC errors to go on a run right before halftime. Montgomery had a tree point lead at the midway point 37-34.

MC went on a quick run to start the second half, but the Wolfpack claimed the third quarter outscoring the Raptors 21-18 to tie the ball game 55-55 heading into the final frame. It wasn't until the fourth quarter where Armonie Lomax and the Raptors took charge and got hot from the field. MC went on an 11-0 run to start the quarter, and they didn't look back. The Raptors scored 30 points in the fourth quarter to win 85-66.

Armonie Lomax finished with 25 points, and Anu Bamijoko scored 22 points to lead the Raptors in scoring. Saraphina Pierre-Louis came off the bench to score nine points while Kenydi Cross and  Sarah Olsen each added eight points in the 19-point victory. Armonie Lomax was named tournament Most Valuable Player and teammates Anu Bamijoko and Seraphina Pierre-Louie named to the All-Tournament Team.

With this win, the Raptors women's basketball team claims the title of 2017-18 NJCAA Region XX DIII Champions and will host the NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball District Championships. The Raptors will play West Georgia Tech on Saturday, March 3rd at 1:00 pm on the Rockville Campus in the main gym.
