Raptors Women's Basketball Ranked #3 Nationally, Lomax Hits the 1,000-point Milestone

The MC Women's basketball team is currently riding a four-game winning streak and ranked #3 in the latest NJCAA National rankings with a record of 18-5; despite having beaten the #2 ranked team Roxbury CC (12-5) in early November.  

As Montgomery College approaches the final contest of the regular season, the team is averaging 83.7 points per game, which is third in the country among all of Division III teams but MC leads in points per game in DIII that has played at least 23 games.  

With multiple scoring threats, the Raptors are averaging a 15.4-point margin of victory and have held their opponent to an average of 59.5 points per game. Montgomery is leading the country in total points (2008 points), total rebounds per game (56 rebounds), and field goal attempts per game (86 field goals) while also averaging the third most steals per game (17.4) in the country.  

On Saturday, January 27, Armonie Lomax scored a season-high 29 points in Montgomery's victory over Howard Community College by 66 points 93-27. Anu Bamijoko and Alandra Bandy both recorded double-doubles as Bamijoko scored 11 points and pulled down 15 rebounds, Bandy tallied 13 points and 13 rebounds in the contest.  

On Saturday, February 3, Sarah Olsen shot 81% from the field and finished with 18 points, 11 rebounds, two steals and a block alongside Lomax who also recorded 18 points for the day and 1,000 points for her career in the Raptors 91-64 victory at Anne Arundel Community College. The big moment for the 5-foot-8 sophomore Robert E. Lee High School came with 1:21 to go in the fourth quarter when she drained her 89th career 3-pointer.  

The Raptors defeated Hagerstown CC on the road 69-50 as Lauren Nelson led the Raptors to victory scoring with 19 points. Lomax followed up with 17 points, and Bamijoko added 11 points in the 19-point victory.  
The women's basketball team wraps up their regular season slate on the road at Chesapeake College on Wednesday, February 7 and then begin to prepare for post-season play. The Raptors will compete in the MDJUCO Conference Tournament February 15-18 hosted by Prince George's Community College and then compete in the NJCAA DIII Region XX Tournament hosted by Westmoreland College February 23-25.
