Raptors Women’s Basketball Ranked Fifth in the Nation in Latest NJCAA Poll; MC Hosts Holiday Tournament December 16th & 17th

The Raptors women's basketball team enters the MC Holiday Tournament Ranked fifth in the Nation with a 9-3 record overall and 2-1 in the conference. Wednesday after Thanksgiving Break the Raptors defeated Potomac State College 68-57 as Montgomery had a prolific second quarter outscoring the Catamount 25-10. Lauren Nelson led MC in scoring with 16 points and Caleema Johnson recorded a double double with 12 points and 15 rebounds.

Montgomery started off December with a 39-point victory over Thomas Nelson Community College 76-37. Nelson continued her scoring ways with a game high 21-point performance as Johnson followed suite as she scored 13 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Armonie Lomax added 11 points for MC as Kenydi Cross and Alandra Bandy each added eight points off the bench for the Raptors eighth win in a row.

The Raptors suffered their first conference defeat against Baltimore City CC falling 77-63 on December 6th. Caleema Johnson and Armonie Lomax combined to score over half of Montgomery's point total in the loss. Lomax scored 22 points while Johnson continued her streak of double doubles recording a game high 23 points and 11 rebounds while tallying 7 steals in the defeat.

On December 8th the women's basketball team departed for a two game road trip that was cut in half due to abnormal weather in LaGrange, GA. The weather that impeded West Georgia Technical College from hosting the first contest of the trip but the Raptors marched on to Raleigh, NC where they defeated Wake Tech 90-80. Lomax had a stellar performance to finish 25 points, six assists, five steals, five rebounds and shot 5 for 5 from the charity stripe. Anu Bamijoko came up big for MC with 18 points and 10 rebounds and 5 steals as did teammate Kayla Jackson adding 10 points and 6 rebounds shooting 4 for 5 from the field in 20 minutes of play.
