Three Raptors Named to 2016-17 All-MDJUCO Women's Basketball Team
The Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference named three Raptors to the 2016-17 All-MD JUCO Women's Basketball Teams. Freshman guard, Armonie Lomax, received first team honors, freshman guard Caleema Johnson received second team honors while sophomore guard Sheri Addison received honorable mention.
On Thursday February 16, the Montgomery College women's basketball team entered the MDJUCO Tournament the number three seed set to face off against number six seed Cecil College in the first round of the tournament. The Raptors got off to a strong start in the first half scoring 22 points in each of the first two quarters to take a 44-35 lead going into halftime.
Cecil college erased MC's lead by scoring 42 points in the third and held the Raptors to only 18 points. The raptors were able to tie the game 84-84 with a little over five minutes to play in the game but Montgomery couldn't fight back to close the gap. Montgomery fell to Cecil College in the first round of the tournament 101-91.
Raptors sophomore guard Sheri Addison hit five for six from distance while shooting over 50% from the field to score a team high 27 points to go with nine rebounds. Freshman Destiny Gray came off the bench for MC to score 21 points and recorded six rebounds. Armonie Lomax added 19 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Montgomery College is set to host the NJCAA Region XX DIII Basketball Tournament February 24 - 26 inside the main gym in the Physical Education Building on the Rockville Campus. Montgomery College is the the number one seed in the tournament; they will take on number four seed Westmoreland College Saturday at 3 p.m.
The women's tournament will start Saturday afternoon as number two Butler County CC will play number three Prince George's CC at 1 p.m. in the main gym.
The general admission is $5 a person for each day. Students with a valid college ID, and children 12 years old and younger are free. Various concession items will be available for purchase throughout the weekend.
