Raptors Women's Basketball Jumps to #7 Nationally After Tallying Two MDJUCO Wins to Start off 2017

In the Raptors first game of 2017, the MC women's basketball team defeated nationally-ranked Division II Cecil College (11-2), 93-76. The Raptors started off hot offensively in the first quarter scoring 24 points and holding their opponent to only 12 points.

The Raptors never gave up their lead throughout the game and took their largest lead in the third quarter, 55-27. Armonie Lomax finished with a game-high 27 points and 12 rebounds while Caleema Johnson finished with an impressive 25 points and 20 rebounds. Sherri Addison added 19 points and nine rebounds in the Raptors 17-point victory over conference opponent Cecil.

On January 11, the MC women's basketball team picked up a huge Region XX win over rival Prince George's Community College, 80-56. Lomax scored 22 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, Addison added 21 points and Johnson added 18 points and 8 steals for the Raptors. MC freshman Anu Bamijoko finished the contest with a healthy stat line with 8 points, 18 rebounds, seven steals, and six assists.

The Raptors women's basketball team is currently 3rd in the MDJUCO standings and 1st in NJCAA DIII Region XX standings. With a record of 13-3 the Raptors are ranked 7th in the most recent NJCAA DIII Polls. Armoni Lomax is 11th (21.8 pts/g) and Caleema Johnson (19.3 pts/g) is 27th among the nations points per game leaders. Johnson is also second in the nation in total steals with 83 steals on the season.
