Great Start for Raptors Women’s Basketball; Two-wins at MC Tipoff Tournament

The Montgomery College women's basketball team swept through the MC Tipoff Tournament over the weekend by a total of 70 points. The Raptors defeated Columbus State College, 94-57, on Saturday. Sunday the Raptors defeated Cumberland CC, 86-53. In the Raptors' first game against Columbus State, MC hit on 46% shooting from the field. MC applied defensive pressure most of the game forcing 46 turnovers and scoring 45 points off turnovers. Raptors freshman Armonie Lomax scored a team high 19 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Teammate Caleema Johnson finished with 18 points and Jasmine Obas chipped in off the bench to score 14 points as the Raptors got off to a 1-0 start to the season.

Sunday against Cumberland County College, Lomax scored 35 points and finished with 15 rebounds for her second double-double of the season in the Raptors' 86-53 victory. Caleema Johnson also recorded a double-double finishing with 14 points and 13 rebounds. MC sophomore Jewell Johnson came off the bench and scored 14 points, dished out six assists and had five steals. The Raptors were able to score 42 points in the paint and Cumberland CC turned the ball over 37 times in the 33-point blowout.
