Raptors Men’s Soccer Claim MDJUCO Title and Advance to NJCAA DI Region XX Final

The Montgomery College men's soccer team are the 2018 Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference Champions as the Raptors are a spotless 11-0 in conference play. The MC Raptors are currently ranked 9th in the country according to the most recent NJCAA DI Men's Soccer poll, but the ranking doesn't illustrate the true level of the MC Raptors. The Raptors lead the nation in goals scored and have outscored their opponents 115-18 and lead the country in goals scored per game with an average of 5.22 goals per game. The Raptors entered the NJCAA DI Region XX Men's Soccer Tournament as the #1 seed and defeated #4 CCBC Catonsville 3-1 on Wednesday, October 24th.

The Raptors scoring has been led by sophomore forward Youness Benmouna, who is fifth in the nation in scoring with 23 goals and is also fifth in the nation in assists as he has found teammates 15 times. Teammate Sahor "Pa" Keluntang has also contributed to his team's success holding down the back line for the Raptors. Pa scored 11 goals and added six assists while playing the center back position and has helped the backline to one of the best goals-against averages in the country, with teams that have played more than 15 games, holding opponents to 0.82 goals a game. The goalkeeping for Montgomery has been strong all season, and another significant factor in the team's success, as Christian Andrade and Parker Shugars have split the workload just about evenly. Andrade has recorded seven wins, four shutouts and 48 saves in 11 games and Shugars has tallied four wins, three shutouts and 36 saves in 11 games.

Montgomery will look to take down CCBC Essex, the defending NJCAA DI Region XX Champs, in the Championship Game is set for this Saturday, October 27th at 1:30 pm at CCBC Catonsville Stadium.
