Men’s Soccer Picks-up a Win and Team’s First Lose in Tom Bichy Memorial Tournament.

The Montgomery College men's soccer team won one game and dropped their first game of the season over the weekend at the Fifth Annual Tom Bichy Memorial Soccer Tournament. The Raptors defeated Allegany College of MD 22-1 in game one and let up two late goals to Mt. San Antonio College falling 2-1. 

In game one against Allegany College of MD, sophomore forward Alex Villatoro lead the way in scoring for Montgomery with four goals in the match and teammates Nnanyelugo Onyia, Youness Benmouna, Daniel Tshiani, Carlos Contreras and Akrem Seid each added a pair of goals in the match. The Raptors played on their opponent's half of the field for most of the game peppering the goal with 42 shots and beating the goalie 22 times. 

On Saturday, September 8th Mount San Antoni College, from Walnut California, defeated the defending NJCAA DIII National Champions Genesee CC in an exciting 2-1 match. The next day, Genesee CC bounced back by blanking Prince George's CC 4-0 in a game that was stopped by game officials in the 71st minute due to unplayable field conditions. 

In a match that was relocated to Walter Johnson High School Montgomery College gave up two late goals to Mt. SAC in a 2-1 thriller. In the 53rd minute, sophomore Diego Campos hit a high arching shot from 45-yards out catching the Mt. SAC goalkeeper out of position to give the Raptors a brief lead. Eight minutes later, Mt. San Antonio answered back to tie the game and in the 68th minute to take the lead. MC goalkeeper, Parker Shugars played strong stopping 12 shots in the 90-minute match.

Up Next: 

The Raptors, now 5-1 on the season, will travel to Harford Community College on September 11th for a 6:00 p.m. Maryland JuCo contest. The Raptors will travel to Milledgeville, GA on September 14th to take on a Division I team from Region VIII Eastern Florida State College, and the next day the team will play Georgia Military College, a Division I team out of Region XVII.
