Tom Bichy Soccer Tournament Re-Cap: MC Salvages Weekend with Win Over Bunker Hill

The 3rd annual Tom Bichy Soccer Tournament, hosted by Montgomery College featured Prince George's Community College, Nassau Community College, Bunker Hill Community College and Camden County College. The five outstanding NJCAA teams gave us great soccer this past weekend at the MD SoccerPlex.

Day one brought us two thrilling overtimes games. In game one, MC played fourth-ranked Camden CC. Allan Costa of Camden CC scored first and Camden held the lead going into the break. Montgomery was able to even the score as co-captain, Arash Kamali, lobbed a ball over the back line of Camden for Peter Psallidas to beat the goal to tie the game 1-1. Lucas Mattos was able to find the back of the net to regain the lead for Camden. Montgomery dropped their first game 2-1.

The second game of the day paired Prince George's Community College against Nassau Community College from NY. Both teams faught hard but Nassau CC tallied the only goal of the match ito defeat Prince George's 1-0.

Day two was a test of each team's endurance and recovery. In the third game of the tournament, Montgomery College played strong but wasn't able to capitalize on Nassau's mistakes. Both teams were scoreless going into half time but Nassau scored quickly after the break and again before the final whistle. MC was unable find the back of the net and dropped their second game 2-0.

The fourth game of the tournament ended in a draw as Camden scored first in the second half and Bunker Hill answered with a goal of their own before the end of regulation. No goals were scored in the two 10-minute extra frames.

Day three was the final game of the tournament between MC and Bunker Hill CC. MC's Juan Daniel-Velasquez scored a header off a corner from Wesley Declid to strike first before halftime. Jason Davila blasted home an insurance goal in the second half to give the Raptors the 2-0 victory over Bunker Hill CC.

The men's soccer team is currently 2-3-1 this season and will travel to play Harford CC on Wednesday September 7 at 6 p.m. and CCBC Catonsville on Friday September 9 at 7 p.m. The Raptors will return home to play Mt. San Antonio College at the Maryland Soccerplex on Sunday September 11 at 3 p.m.
