Men’s Basketball Racks Up Eight Wins Thus Far in Second Half of Season

The MC men's basketball team ended January on a four-game winning streak while scoring an average of 93 points per game and defeating their opponents by an average of 21 points during the four-game slate.

With the final contest of the regular season lingering around the corner, the men's basketball team is averaging 87.4 points per game this season. That makes Montgomery 18th in the country among all of Division III teams but third best in points per game in DIII with teams that have played at least 25 games. Montgomery is also seventh in the country in points scored with 2186 total points scored, right behind four teams ranked in the top 10 in the nation.

On Saturday, January 20, Collin Turner scored 34 points in Montgomery's victory over Butler County Community College 113-81. Ramel Davidson tied his career-high scoring 21 points, and Elisha Arnold was three assists away from a triple-double recording ten points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists. Afanna Offor had a great night shooting the ball as he scored 17 points and shot eight for twelve from the field with five assists and four rebounds in the contest. 

On Wednesday, January 24, all of Montgomery's starters scored double-digit points as Ramel Davidson, and Freddie Harris each recorded a double-double in MC's victory over CCBC Dundalk 68-53. Davidson had 12 points with 12 rebounds, Harris scored 12 points and pulled down 19 rebounds, and Turner scored 19 points in the 15-point victory.

On Wednesday, January 31, the men's basketball took down Garrett College on Sophomore Night 95-67! Collin Turner scored 30 points with four dimes while Eli Arnold comes off the bench to drop a career-high 27 points and pulled down nine rebounds! Ramel Davidson recorded a double-double with 10 points, and 11 rebounds and Afanna Offor drained 14 points in the 28-point victory.

On Saturday, February 3, Freddie Harris shot 70% from the field to finish with 14 points, 13 rebounds, and two steals alongside Turner who also recorded 21 points in the Raptors victory over Anne Arundel Community College 69-62.

On Monday, February 6 the Raptors lost to Hagerstown CC on the road 70-61. After a five-point lead at halftime, the Raptors were outscored by Hagerstown 40-26 in the second half. 

The men's basketball team wraps up their regular season schedule on the road at Chesapeake College on Wednesday, February 7 at 7 pm and will begin to prepare for post-season action. The Raptors will compete in the MDJUCO Conference Tournament February 15-18 hosted by Prince George's Community College and then compete in the NJCAA DIII Region XX Tournament hosted by Westmoreland College February 23-25.
