Raptors Men’s Basketball 2016-17 Season Concludes in the District 7 Championship; Patrick Smith Elapses 1,000 Points and 870 Rebounds in Montgomery College Career.

After the Raptors men's basketball team claimed the NJCAA Region XX DIII Championship for the first time under second-year Coach Keith Byrd, the team traveled to Covington, Georgia to compete in the NJCAA District Championship.  

On Friday, March 3rd, the MC Raptors defeated West Georgia Tech College in the District semifinal game, 81-69. After being down seven points at halftime, the Raptors were the beneficiary of several runs that amounted to a 50-31 second half push. MC Freshman Chris Johnson took over in the second half creating several plays for himself and his teammates. Johnson finished with an incredible 15 points, 12 assists, and five steals. Sophomore Andre Hodo scored a game-high 20 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Ramel Davidson added 15 points and ten rebounds in the Raptors 12-point victory to advance to the District Final against the #1 ranked team in the NJCAA. 

On Saturday, March 4th The Raptors faced the Davidson County Community College Storm with a trip to the NJCAA National Championship on the line. Montgomery College had Davidson backed into a corner in the first half leading by as many as seven points MC had a one-point lead halfway through the game. The DCCC Storm was able to outscore the Raptors in the second half shooting 60% from the field to escape with the 92-79 victory. Patrick Smith scored a game-high 29 points and pulled down 17 rebounds to record 1,022 points and 873 rebounds in his two-year career at Montgomery College. Chris Johnson scored 19 points and dished out seven assists while Andre Hodo added 13 points and nine rebounds in the District Final. 

The Raptors men's basketball team finished their season with a record of 22-10 overall and the title of 2016-17 NJCAA Region XX Champions. Montgomery's Patrick Smith and Andre Hodo were named to the All-Region First Team and Chris Johnson was named to the All-Region Second Team.
