Patrick Smith Named 2016-17 MDJUCO Player of the Year

MC's Patrick Smith was named MDJUCO Player of the Year. This is the second year in a row that a player from the Montgomery College men's basketball team has received this award. Smith was also named to the 2016-17 First Team All-MD JUCO men's basketball team. 

One year ago, the MC Raptors men's basketball team won the highly competitive MDJUCO Conference Tournament for the first time in 24 years. On February 17, Montgomery College entered the MDJUCO Tournament as the seventh seed set to face off against number two seed CCBC Catonsville Cardinals in the first round of the tournament. The Cardinals edged out the Raptors 89-79, to eliminate the defending champs from the tournament. Raptors freshman guard Chris Johnson scored a team-high 20 points while Smith added 17 points and 16 rebounds for his 22nd double double of the season. 

Montgomery College is set to host the NJCAA Region XX DIII Basketball Tournament February 24 - 26 inside the main gym in the Physical Education Building located on the Rockville Campus. Montgomery College is the #1 seed in the tournament. The MC Raptors men's basketball will play Saturday, February 25 at 5 p.m. and will take on the winner of number four CCAC-Allegheny vs. number five Penn Highlands CC game. Tournament action kicks off Friday evening when CCAC Allegheny will take on Penn Highlands CC scheduled at 6 p.m. in the main gym. 

The general admission is $5 a person for each day. Students with a valid college ID, and children 12 years old and younger are free. Various concession items will be available for purchase throughout the weekend.
