Men's Basketball Picks Up Six Wins in January

The MC men's basketball team has made it through the toughest month of their schedule 6-3 defeating Frederick and Brookdale Community Colleges (CC). The Raptors have played 23 games so far this season and are 16-7 overall and 7-5 in the conference, sitting tied for sixth in a very competitive MDJUCO standings.  

Two of the three losses come against Harford CC who is #1 in the MDJUCO and CCBC Catonsville #3 in MDJUCO.  

On Saturday, January 18, the Raptors defeated College of Southern MD at home 91-74. Patrick Smith led the way with a game-high 29 points and 19 rebounds. He shot 70% from the field alongside Chris Johnson adding two points and six assists. Andre Hodo added another double-double to his season with 13 points and ten rebound in Montgomery's 17-point victory.  

With the win over College of Southern MD, Head Coach Keith Byrd has tallied a win over each MDJUCO opponents, reaching this feat in his first 50 games as head coach of the MC Raptors.  

On Wednesday, January 21, Montgomery College defeated Frederick on the road 83-69. Hodo scored a game-high 26 points, ten rebounds and six assists, followed by P. Smith with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Ramel Davidson also had a double-double with 13 points and ten rebounds in the Raptors 14-point victory.  

On Wednesday, January 25, MC battled with the top dog in the MDJUCO Harford CC but fell short of victory 73-62. The Raptors were down two, 45-43 with 11 minutes to play in the second half, but Harford was able to pull away down the stretch. Four Raptors finished with double figures: P. Smith lead the way with 18 points 14 rebounds, followed by Hodo with 13 points and Johnson and Davidson each with 12.

On Saturday, January 28, the MC Raptors took their second back-to-back loss in two years falling to CCBC Catonsville 61-60. P. Smith recorded 19 points and 23 rebounds while teammate Shekinah Mondoua stepped up for the Raptors and had a huge game scoring 16 points hitting 4 of 7 shots from deep. The Raptors had a last second chance to take the lead but were off the mark by inches.

On Sunday, January 29, Montgomery picked up another win against Brookdale Community College out of NJ 60-53. Ramel Davison led the way for the Raptors with 21 points and 13 rebounds, followed by Chris Johnson who added 10 points. P. Smith added 9 points and 11 rebounds and Mondoua added 9 points off the bench in the 7-point victory.
