Men’s Basketball Goes .500 at MC Tipoff Tournament This Past Weekend

On Saturday at the Tipoff Tournament, the Montgomery College men's basketball team won its first game of the season, 95-59, over Patrick Henry and lost a close one to Pitt Community College, 69-68, on Sunday. Against Patrick Henry, MC freshman Chris Johnson scored a game-high 21 points, had five assists and three steals. Patrick Smith picked up where he left off last year scoring 11 points and pulling down 16 rebounds. Freshman Anthony Thomas came off the bench to score 16 points in 25 minutes. By early in the second half, the Raptors jumped out to a 36-point lead. MC shot 57% from the field in the 95-59 victory.

In Sunday's game, Montgomery College lost s true nail biter. The Raptors had their largest lead at halftime, up by 11 points, 37-26. MC let the lead slip away with 9:07 left to play in the game. The Raptors tied the game three times in the last eight minutes but couldn't take the lead. MC freshman Colin Turner hit a jumper to tie the game at 68 with just 49 seconds to play. Turner finished with a team-high 14 points while Ramel Davidson recorded 11 points, 14 rebounds and nine blocks. Smith scored 11 points with 10 rebounds in the one-point loss to Pitt.
