Raptors Baseball Season Comes to a Close in Region XX DII Tournament

On May 8th, fourth seeded Montgomery College Raptors hosted fifth seeded CCBC Catonsville Cardinals in the first round of the NJCAA Region XX DII Baseball Tournament and the winner advancing to the Regional Final Four in Frederick. After both teams picked up a win in the regular season series, but the Cardinals would edge out the Raptors in a close game 4-1.

Neither team scored in the first, with the Raptors turning a nifty double play to end the top half. In the bottom half, in a sign of things to come, the Raptors put two on with one out but couldn't bring in the runners.

Catonsville broke thru with two in the second on a two-run homer from Easy Goita. MC put two on again in the second but the Cardinals were able to put together another inning ending double play.

MC finally got on the board in the eighth with two outs, Brendan Grass singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and then scored when Chris Coakley dumped a single into left. But that was as close as the Raptors would come as they dropped a heartbreaker 4-1.

The loss ends the Raptors Season, their first at the DII level. The team finished 19-18 overall and 13-11 in the MD Juco Conference, as the Raptors turned in a very solid season full of high points.
