Raptors Baseball Notch Two Wins in Home Opener Against Anne Arundel

The Raptors baseball team swept their DII Regional opponent the Anne Arundel Community College Riverhawks over the weekend in a 10-0 in game one and 6-2 in game two.

Zeke Gongola pitched a complete game shutout and picked up his second win of the season allowing only 3 hits and 3 walks with 3 strikeouts in 5 innings pitched. Raptors sophomore Justin Van Steelant had himself a game at the plate going 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored and Brendan Grass went 3-for-2 with one RBI and one run. Will Burgess added hit a solo home run, the seventh home run of his career, in the third inning.

In game two, Raptor's left-handed pitcher A.J. Javitt helped the his team on both offensive and defense. The lefty picked up a complete game win on the mound tallied 13 strike outs and only gave up two earned runs on two hits. Additionally, Javitt went 3-for-4 on the day batting with two runs and one RBI that included a solo home run to break open the scoring for the Raptors in the bottom of the fifth inning. Freshman Bruce Pattishall went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and one run scored while Burgess scored one run on one hit.

These two wins break a four-game losing streak, but the Raptors are 3-0 in conference play and 8-5 overall. Raptors next home game is a single 9-inning game Tuesday, March 19th against Hagerstown at 3pm.
