Women's Soccer Rallies Past Montgomery Rockville for First Win

Midfielder Angelina Mowad (Washington Township) scored an unassisted goal and the Roadrunners tallied the game winner on a Montgomery own goal to lift RCGC to an exciting 2-1 win on the road Saturday afternoon.

Alexa Escobar gave the host Raptors an early 1-0 lead by netting a goal at the 24:02 mark of the first half. RCGC's Mowad followed with her goal at 41:15, assisted by Kylie Guarente (Washington Twp.), as the two teams headed into the locker room tied at 1-1.

Late in the second half, Josie O'Donnell (Holy Cross) fired a shot on net that deflected off an opposing player for the game winning goal.
Goalkeeper Michelle Salamoni (Washington Twp.) stopped 11 of 12 shots to record the win for RCGC. The Roadrunners, who lost a heartbreaker to Harcum College on opening day, improved to 1-1 with the win and will visit Howard County College Sunday in a 12 noon start.

"Coming off the loss from Harcum, we focused on getting back to basics, specifically our work rate and discipline," said head coach Megan Ruttler. "Montgomery prides themselves on playing an 'intricate' style of soccer and were very disciplined in the attack, utilizing all 11 players.  We were able to counter that by clogging passing lanes, double teaming when appropriate and pressuring opponents in an effort to force mistakes. Both of our goals were scored in transition. Working as a unit to dispossess our opponents and having composure to finish."
