Slaybaugh's Walk-Off Keeps Postseason Dream Alive

NORTH EAST, Md. - Evan Slaybaugh's two-RBI single in the seventh handed Cecil a much needed Region 20 victory, as the Seahawks defeated Montgomery 5-4 on Wednesday.

After falling 13-2 in game one, Dylan Byler kept the Montgomery offense in check during game two. He allowed just four runs on eight hits while striking out eight. Byler (2-2) also walked once and scored the tying run off of Slaybaugh's single.

Garrett Worthington's home run in the first put Cecil ahead 2-0. After a scoreless second frame, the Raptors would plate two runs in the third and one in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead. A throwing error by Montgomery scored one to put the Seahawks back even in the bottom fourth.

Neither team would score over the next two innings. The Raptors took two quick outs in the seventh, but back-to-back base hits by the visitors put them out in front once more.

A second throwing error by Montgomery planted Byler at second base to start the bottom of the frame. A fly out eventually moved him to third, then Worthington walked to put the winning run at first base. The sophomore stole second shortly after, but a groundout put Montgomery one out away from ending the inning. After an intentional walk to Lane Weismiller, Slaybaugh stepped up slapped a ball to center to drive home two and win the game.
