Women’s Volleyball Goes 2-1 Over Weekend

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College women's volleyball team moves to 9-0 in conference play, 23-3 overall after traveling to Louisburg College Friday evening, and hosting Monroe College and Montgomery College in a tri-match Saturday afternoon.

 

Friday evening, the Statesmen took down Louisburg College in three straight sets; 25-17, 25-14 and 25-13. Sarah Heath and Sydney Phillips led the attack with 11 kills each, followed by Leilani Goggin with 10 and Hailey Hopkins with nine. Karagyn Durco assisted on 36 occasions, Jadyn Brown added four service aces, and Rylie Harris had 14 digs in the win.

 

In the opening match Saturday afternoon, the Statesmen rallied tough through a five set match with the Mustang but fell just short; 15-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-17 and 17-15. Hopkins and Heath led the attack with 14 and 12 kills, followed by Goggin with 10. Durco added 45 assists and four service aces in the loss. Silaulauinasimativa Aoelua had 16 digs for the Statesmen.

 

In the final match of the day, the Statesmen rebounded and picked up a three set sweep over the Raptors; 25-13, 25-16 and 25-23. Aoelua led the attack with 13 kills followed by Hopkins and Goggin with 11 each. Durco chipped in with 49 assists and Harris had 15 digs in the win.

 

The Richard Bland women's volleyball team next hosts Bryant & Stratton (VA) on Wednesday, October 19th at 6pm.
